The public inquiry set up to investigate the troubled opening of Hong Kong's new airport at Chek Lap Kok has heard further evidence of apparent mismanagement.

Yeung Kwok-keung, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (HACTL) deputy managing director, has spoken of bungled fire safety tests that ultimately led to the suspension of cargo operations throughout July and August - costing the former colony an estimated 0.35% of annual gross domestic product.

Yeung told the hearing that "-water damage to the system was partly due to the drencher tests by Fire Services", and claimed the tests interrupted power supply to vital cargo terminal computer systems. The new airport is managed by the Hong Kong Airport Authority, and various parties have blamed others for the airport's troubles.
