Hughes has won the $90.5 million contract to build the new-generation Morelos 3 communications satellite for Mexico, beating Lockheed Martin and Space Systems Loral. The Hughes-built, HS-376 Morelos 1 and 2 were launched in 1985.
Hughes also built the larger, HS-601 Solidaridad 1 and 2 communications satellites, launched by Arianes in 1993 and 1994.
