The fifth MAKS International Aviation & Space Salon was held on 19-24 August at the Zhukovsky air base in Moscow, Russia. Organisers say it was the largest Moscow air show ever, with exhibitor numbers up 19% on MAKS 2001. Efforts to attract foreign and civilian companies are starting to pay off, with 115 non-Russian exhibitors this year, a 53% increase on 2001. But an Armavia-operated Airbus A320, a Boeing Business Jet and B-52 bomber were the only Western aircraft present, most of the 167 aircraft on display being Russian military types. Vladimir Karnozov and Justin Wastnage report.
