GMF AeroAsia signed a cooperation agreement with Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) to be the latter’s preferred choice of MRO on Airbus and Boeing widebodies, as well as on components.
The deal will see GMF conducting airframe maintenance on Airbus A330s, Boeing 747-400s and 777s operated by Air France and KLM. Component maintenance works will also be done on on behalf of AFI KLM E&M.
The MRO arm of Garuda Indonesia will also receive training on airframe, component, and engine maintenance conducted by the European MRO company.
Moving forward, GMF hopes to further boost its partnership with AFI KLM E&M to include other business areas, says acting chief executive Tazar Kurniawan.
The two companies entered into a strategic partnership in October 2018, building on the earlier subcontracting work that GMF had done on behalf of AFI KLM E&M. Kurniawan told FlightGlobal in November 2018 that subcontracting and joint bids are being studied, as part of the partnership.
Separately, GMF renewed its partnership with CFM International on engine and materials maintenance. As part of the deal, GMF is now permitted to maintain CFM56-5B engines, while its licence to maintain the CFM56-7B engines was renewed.
Both companies will also collaborate in spare parts purchasing and component repair.
GMF signed the deals with CFM and AFI KLM E&M at the recent Paris air show.
