TAP Portugal has joined a maintenance network for CFM International Leap-1A engines, having started its own operations with the powerplant.
The Leap-1A is one of the two engine options for the A320neo family, with which TAP is renewing its single-aisle fleet.
CFM states that it has sealed a general support licence agreement with TAP for maintenance activities on the powerplant. It says TAP will benefit from CFM training expertise.
TAP is operating four A320neo-family aircraft. The airline has 24 A321neos and 13 A320neos on direct order with Airbus, and agreed two years ago to take 79 Leap engines.
Chief technical officer Mario Lobato Faria says the maintenance pact is important as it will provide the carrier with a “relevant service offer” for third parties.
