US-based cargo carrier Atlas Air has extended the maintenance agreement for its General Electric CF6 engines with MTU until 2020.
The German company has serviced the CF6-50 and -80 engines for the Boeing 747 operator at its Hannover overhaul shop since 1999.
Atlas Air has an active fleet of five CF6-50E2-powered 747-200s, one CF6-50E2-powered 747-400 and four CF6-80C2B1-powered 747-400s, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
MTU says the deal accounts for a large part of the €400 million ($578 million) business volume it has registered during the first quarter of 2011.
