UK Foreign Office officials have visited Egypt in an attempt to persuade the country to curb plans for the export of medium-range ballistic missiles. Egypt, with North Korean assistance, is working on the production of an improved Scud missile. The UK asked Egypt to respect the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) guidelines, even though it is not a signatory. Egyptian officials, however, are believed to have made it clear that they consider Israel to be a far worse offender against the MTCR than Egypt.
