Leading German engine maker MTU, the world's largest independent provider of commercial engine services, has shifted repair of the PW2000 engine from MTU Maintenance in Hanover to MTU Aero Engines in Munich. V2500 business is booming at the Hanover shop while the Munich-based military repair business is receding and capacities are freed up.

Acceptance

Customer support services and acceptance test runs will remain in Hanover so that customers aren't disadvantaged.

Says Dr Klaus Steffens, MTU Aero Engines president and chief executive: "This is a win/win situation for everyone. "We relieve bottlenecks in Hanover and the repair work in Munich will help to preserve know-how during a lean time for military work. "The switch also accommodates our military customer - the German services - which is being forced to stretch repair contracts on account of scarce defence euros. "This way, the parts repair and engine maintenance capabilities that must be there to ensure the country's readiness in security contingencies will be maintained."
