SR Technics is to co-operate with Garuda’s technical division to provide component support on Airbus A330s and current-generation Boeing 737s for customers in southeast Asia.
The Swiss MRO specialist has signed a five-year partnership agreement with Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia, under which component repair capabilities will be built up at the airline's Jakarta shop so that it can provide "regional support" for SR Technics and Abu Dhabi-based parent group Mubadala Aerospace.
The deal is based on an existing contract under which SR Technics maintains components on Garuda’s 737s and A330s. The Zürich-based MRO provider will assist GMF in building up the necessary repair capabilities for 150 part numbers.
Aside from supporting its own fleet, GMF will serve "any local or regional airlines".
Also including Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies and engine- and component-leasing arm Sanad alongside SR Technics, Mubadala's MRO business expects the deal to expand its regional presence in southeast Asia, says its chief executive James Stewart.
GMF chief executive Richard Budihadianto says collaborating with SR Technics is an "important achievement towards GMF gaining the trust of the global aviation industry" but will nevertheless be a challenge.
Meanwhile, SR Technics is setting up a repair shop in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur for low-cost component work.
