US company Nanocomp Technologies is offering a carbon nanotube textile material for use in structural composites, electronics thermal management, wiring, antennas and ultra capacitors for the aerospace industry. The material is available in non-woven sheets or as yarn.
The firm says it has found a way to produce long and pure carbon nanotubes, which can be used to produce a textile material that is light, strong and conducts heat and electricity. It expects unmanned air vehicles to be among early applications.
President and chief executive Peter Antoinette expects the materials to be used with existing composites "to add strength, stiffness and reduce weight, augmenting their known properties".
