NASA has produced a shortlist of research organisations hoping to perform earth science research using unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). NASA will review plans from 11 finalists and select up to three next year for full development. NASA has budgeted $12 million to fund the research, which runs until the end of 2003. The UAVs will carry scientific payloads designed to understand the global environment. Missions proposed include a range of earth science studies to monitor the planet.
