The US Department of Defense is drawing up requests for proposals (RFPs) for the equipment needed by Eastern European nations to harmonise their military and civil airspace-control systems. The Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia are the first four countries to agree to step up civil/military and cross-border co-operation as one of the steps required for them to be considered for NATO membership. Such co-operation is unheard of in the region. The $6.5 million Air Sovereignty Operational Centre includes digital radar-feeds, displays and display processing.
