Jeppesen plans to put its vast navigation database on the Internet for access by pilots using instrument flight rules global positioning system receivers with the company's data cartridges.

Customers will be able to download the 56-day cycle updates without the expense of exchanging the data cards.

Even after investing in the hardware and software required to use the service, Jeppesen says, first-year costs will be competitive with today's cartridge exchange system. Costs for subsequent years will be about 30% lower, or more with greater use, the company says.
