A Boeing Delta II booster was launched from Cape Canaveral's Complex 17 on 30 January carrying the $50 million US Air Force Navstar GPS 2R-7 satellite into orbit. The first Delta II-GPS combination flew in 1989 since when there have been 32 successful launches and one failure.
