A survey by NASA has found that seven out of 10 commercial pilots have admitted to having fallen asleep while flying their aircraft. That figure alarms insurers and one leading US insurer, USAIG (booth 4634) is doing something about it.
The company announced at NBAA that it has teamed up with Z-Coach to offer the fatigue management training course for up to 10 employees of corporate or turbine charter operators who are insured with USAIG.
The program is devised by Alertness Solutions chief scientist Dr Mark Rosekind, who has been a regular presenter at events such as Bombardier Safety Standowns and an award winner from NASA and Flight Safety Foundation.
"You don't have to be a pilot to qualify. Any employee in your flight department may qualify. Technicians, dispatchers all can suffer from fatigue that could prove critical to operations," Rosekind said.
"Fatigue is a complex issue," says Rosekind. "Z-Coach offers a personal program that looks at physical condition, cultural attitudes and how you work. It is computer based and is tailored to the individual user. Anybody that is critical to 24h operations could benefit. There are multi-levels of achievement and users develop strategies and tools to beat fatigue."
USAIG customers will also get additional subscriptions at a discount price.
