A cargo restraint system that combines the weight and cost advantages of nets with the space-saving characteristics of rigid barriers has been announced by UK-based Bridport Aviation (Stand A17, Hall 1).

Bridport is developing a new 9g-rated semi-rigid barrier comprising a net structure with a partial circular frame. The net is based on liquid-crystal polymer fibres in order to reduce forward distension under deceleration loads.

"The result is a barrier that weighs significantly less than an equivalent rigid cargo bulkhead at a fraction of the cost, while having a much smaller distension footprint than a conventional net," says Paul Goodman, Bridport head of technical sales.
