Romanian air force Mikoyan MiG-21 Lancers have made their first overseas deployment, with the visit by two fighters to the Royal Netherlands Air Force at Twente airbase. As part of NATO's Partnership for Peace programme, the fighters operated with RNLAF Lockheed Martin F-16AMs of 315 Sqn. The Lancer A - pictured with an F-16AM - is an upgrade of the MiG-21MF by Romania's Aerostar and Israel's Elbit. The modification includes a new cockpit, an Elta multimode radar and the capability to use Israeli, Russian and other Western weapons. Also visiting was a two-seat Lancer B, an upgraded MiG-21UM, while an ex-USAF Lockheed Martin C-130B Hercules provided support.
