Air Canada will begin five-times-weekly flights between Montreal and Toulouse on 4 June 2020.
The Star Alliance carrier notes that this will be the only year-round service between the Canadian and French aerospace hubs. Airbus is headquartered in Toulouse, and the European airframer's A220 jet is manufactured at Mirabel near Montreal.
Airbus A330-300s configured with 292 seats will be used to operate the Montreal-Toulouse flights.
"This new route is our sixth destination in continental France and represents further growth from our Montreal hub, where Air Canada has launched 35 new global routes since 2012," states Air Canada chief executive Calin Rovinescu. "It will strengthen Montreal's position as both a business and tourism destination while making it a premier North American Atlantic gateway."
Canada's two largest airlines, Montreal-based Air Canada and Calgary-based WestJet, have each added numerous flights to European destinations in the course of 2019. Competition on transatlantic routes may increase as both airlines complete mergers which could increase their resources for expansion plans.
Onex Partners is seeking regulatory approval to purchase WestJet, including its debt. Air Canada meanwhile awaits government permission to purchase Transat AT, the parent company of Air Transat, following a vote by shareholders of the tour operator to approve the bid.
