The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has barred eight carriers from adding scheduled services, charters and making new route applications into China for the next few months.
Asia Atlantic Airlines, Longjiang Airlines, Somon Air, and Ariana Afghan Airlines faces the longest blockage, spanning from 28 February through to 31 May. This is for failure to meet performance requirements.
Similarly, Turkmenistan Airlines will face the ban till 30 April, and China United Airlines, MIAT Mongolia Airlines, and Air Algeria till 31 March.
The Chinese regulator also criticised a number of carriers including Longjiang Airlines, Beibu Gulf Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines in its monthly monitoring report without providing further details.
At the same time, it also barred Beijing Capital International airport from adding frequencies and accepting new route applications till the end of March. This is since it failed to meet performance targets for five consecutive months between April and August 2017.
Shanghai Pudong International airport faces a similar ban till the end of April, for its poor performance between July and September 2017.
The two airports can, however, adjust their existing flights to raise the number of international services, as well as flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
