Delta Air Lines will add new nonstop service to both Munich and Rome in May 2016, bringing the number of new transatlantic routes it plans to add for the summer of 2016 to five.
The Atlanta-based SkyTeam Alliance carrier will begin six-times weekly service between its Detroit hub and Munich with a 246-seat Boeing 767-400ER and daily service between its Minneapolis/St Paul hub and Rome with a 226-seat 767-300ER on 26 May 2016, it says.
“Our five new routes will complement our returning seasonal service for a full summer of transatlantic flying in 2016," says Dwight James, senior vice-president of transatlantic at Delta, in a statement. "Detroit to Munich is important for our corporate customers, while Minneapolis/St Paul to Rome is a strong addition to our existing hub service from Rome.”
The new routes join previously announced new service between New York John F Kennedy and Edinburgh, Raleigh/Durham and Paris Charles de Gaulle and Salt Lake City and London Heathrow that begin in the second quarter of 2016.
Both the Munich and Rome routes will operate as part of Delta’s joint venture with Air France, Alitalia and KLM.
No airlines fly either the Detroit-Munich or Minneapolis/St Paul-Rome routes, Innovata schedules show.
