Delta Air Lines will return to service between Minneapolis/St Paul and Mexico City from 8 June 2019, almost eight years after it ended flights on the route.
The SkyTeam carrier, which is resuming the route under its joint venture with partner Aeromexico, will operate daily between the two cities with Airbus A319 aircraft. The route is subject to government approval.
"We've heard from our Twin Cities customers that Mexico City is at the top of their most requested destinations and this new service will give them just that and more," says Delta's president for international and executive vice-president of global sales Steve Sear.
Delta will be the only airline operating nonstop on the route, FlightGlobal schedules data show. It last operated between Minneapolis/St Paul and Mexico City in August 2011.
The carrier says the new Mexico City service will round out nonstop flights operated by Delta and Aeromexico from all of Delta's US hubs to Aeromexico's hub at Mexico City airport.
Delta operates to Mexico City from Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York John F Kennedy and Salt Lake City.
Mexico City will be the third international route from Minneapolis/St Paul announced by Delta in 2018. The airline previously unveiled service to Seoul Incheon, beginning April 2019, as well as flights to Shanghai launching in 2020.
