EgyptAir plans to begin new service to Washington Dulles International airport in June, its third North American destination.
The Star Alliance carrier will offer three-times weekly service between its Cairo base and Washington Dulles with a Boeing 787-9 from 3 June, Cirium schedules data shows.
The flight will operate year-round, Dulles operator the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) confirms.
“As part of EgyptAir’s ambitious plan to reach new horizons around the world, Washington Dulles International airport will serve as a strategic hub for the airline in the United States, complementing and further integrating our network of more than 70 nonstop destinations around the globe,” says captain Ahmed Adel, chairman and chief executive officer of EgyptAir, in a statement.
Dulles is a hub for EgyptAir's Star Alliance partner United Airlines.
EgyptAir has six 787-9s leased from AerCap on order with all of the aircraft due this year, Cirium Fleets Analyzer shows.
Washington Dulles will join New York John F Kennedy and Toronto in EgyptAir's North American network.
Cairo is the latest new international destination from Washington Dulles. The airport, which saw passenger numbers rise 5.1% year-over-year to 24.1 million in 2018, is already due to receive new service to Lisbon on TAP Air Portugal, Rome on Alitalia and Tel Aviv on United this year.
No airlines fly between Cairo and Washington, schedules show.
