Australian regional carrier JetGo Australia has entered an agreement with the City of Karratha that will see it commence twice-weekly Brisbane-Karratha-Singapore services from mid-2018.
JetGo says that it will add 88-seat Embraer 175s to its fleet to operate the services, which will join an existing fleet of two ERJ-135s, two ERJ-140s and one ERJ-145 operate the service,
“This is a logical step for our business and builds on five and a half years of jet operations, including domestic airline services along with domestic and international jet charter services,” says the airline's managing director Paul Bredereck.
To launch the services, the City will make modifications to Karratha airport to accommodate border agencies, while the launch will be subject to regulatory approvals.
Karratha is a major resources hub for Australia's north-west, with major ports that export iron ore and liquefied natural gas.
FlightGlobal schedules show that neither the Brisbane-Karratha nor the Karratha-Singapore routes are presently served. Qantas has previously operated Brisbane-Karratha flights, but withdrew them in 2014 amid a downturn in the mining industry.
Singapore Airlines’ regional unit SilkAir had previously been selected to operate trial services on the Singapore-Karratha route in 2018. FlightGlobal understands however that the airline withdrew those plans in recent months.
