UK leisure carrier Monarch Airlines is adding new routes from Birmingham, Manchester and London Gatwick this summer.
The operator says it has already started new services linking Gatwick with Gibraltar, four times weekly since 1 May, and with Almeria and Lisbon, thrice weekly since 3 May.
Flightglobal's Innovata schedules show that Monarch is competing with EasyJet on these three routes and additionally with Thomas Cook Airlines to Almeria and with TAP Portugal to Lisbon.
On 5 May, Luton-based Monarch will start thrice-weekly Manchester-Lisbon flights and a route from Gatwick to Gran Canaria. There will be competition from Thomas Cook between Manchester and Portugal's capital, and the same airline will be a rival between Gatwick and Gran Canaria, along with EasyJet and Norwegian.
From 17 June, Monarch will operate a Birmingham-Madrid service thrice weekly. From the same UK city, four-times-weekly Lisbon flights will begin on 20 June.
Ryanair, Norwegian and Iberia contest the Madrid route.
