Ryanair is set to compete directly with EasyJet, Germania and Eurowings with flights from Tegel to Palma de Mallorca this summer, after disclosing its first-ever service from the Berlin airport.
The budget carrier says it will operate "peak summer" services on the route between June and August using two Boeing 737s it has newly based at the Spanish island airport.
Ryanair has not previously operated from Tegel and revealed in December that it had applied for slots to do so.
In addition, the airline will start Palma services from Dusseldorf – another German airport from which it does not currently operate – and also from Nuremberg and Stuttgart this summer.
FlightGlobal schedules data for the period June to August indicates that EasyJet, Eurowings and Germania will offer competing flights on the Palma route from Tegel.
EasyJet only began operating the route earlier this year after acquiring slots and other assets from the creditors of Air Berlin last year.
EasyJet, Germania and Ryanair all offer services to Palma from another of the German capital's airports, Schonefeld – as does TUIfly during the winter season.
Eurowings also flies from Nuremberg, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart to Palma. Germania additionally serves the Spanish destination from Nuremberg, while Norwegian and TUIfly operate rival Dusseldorf-Palma services. TUIfly operates a Palma route from Stuttgart.
Niki served Palma from Tegel until its filing for insolvency last year.
The carrier, newly relaunched as Laudamotion, is set to resume Palma services from Basel, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, in co-operation with Thomas Cook, next month.
In addition to its new routes, Ryanair will increase the frequencies of Palma services from Cologne, to 13 per week, and Dortmund, to five per week.
