Indian carrier Vistara has chosen Singapore as the first international destination it will serve, linking Delhi and Mumbai to the city state.
From 6 August, Vistara will operate daily Delhi-Singapore service with its Boeing 737-800s. Daily flights between Mumbai and Singapore will follow suit a day later.
"We’re excited to start with Singapore as our first international destination, which we see as a very important market, given the opportunities it presents for corporate, business as well as leisure travel," says Vistara's chief executive Leslie Thng.
Vistara views Singapore as a key addition to its network, noting that demand for travel between the two countries are rising in line with the growing trade and business ties, as well as tourism.
Singapore is also the base of its 49% shareholder Singapore Airlines.
Cirium schedules data shows that Vistara will be the third operator on the two routes, where it is now dominated by Air India and Singapore Airlines. The previous third operator of the routes, Jet Airways, ceased operations on 17 April.
