Spirit Airlines will add Charlotte to its network in June, its second new destination in North Carolina this year.
The Miramar, Florida-based ultra low-cost carrier will offer daily flights to Baltimore/Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Newark from Charlotte beginning 20 June, it says today. Spirit operates Airbus A320 family aircraft.
“The North Carolina economy continues to thrive, and we are thrilled to add the state’s largest city, Charlotte, to our route network,” says John Kirby, vice-president of network planning at Spirit.
Charlotte is the airline's second new destination in the state this year. It begins service to Raleigh-Durham from six cities, including Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, on 2 May.
Spirit will compete with American Airlines on all four routes from Charlotte, FlightGlobal schedules data shows. Frontier Airlines flies the Charlotte-Orlando route, Southwest Airlines the Charlotte-Baltimore route, and United Airlines the Charlotte-Newark route.
