Central European budget carrier Wizz Air is establishing a base in Sarajevo, in an effort to boost its market position in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The airline says it will station an Airbus A320 in the nation’s capital in order to operate nine routes from May. Destinations will include Brussels Charleroi in Belgium, Danish capital Copenhagen, German cities Dortmund and Memmingen, Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Gothenburg in Sweden, and London in the UK.
Wizz launched flights from Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2013, initially linking Tuzla with Swedish city Malmo. The carrier has since handled nearly 3 million passengers in the Balkan country, and says its new base will grow operations 50% there.
Sarajevo will be Wizz’s 41st base, it notes.
