The Asia-Pacific region is set to become a proving ground for new air traffic management (ATM) concepts developed by Boeing ATM due to the innovative thinking of air traffic service providers and automated ATM systems being installed in the region.

The ATM division of the US manufacturer is in discussions with a number of air traffic service providers in the Asia-Pacific region on the possibility of testing new ATM concepts, says Elizabeth Keck, vice-president Asia Pacific, Boeing ATM. She declines to elaborate on the concepts.

The first fruit of these discussions is the trial of datalinking arrival clearance information led by Boeing ATM and involving Qantas, Airservices Australia and the Air Traffic Alliance at Sydney and Melbourne airports which will start next month.
