The Developer of the GlaStar kitplane has terminated its licensing agreement with bankrupt Stoddard-Hamilton Aircraft and is awarding worldwide manufacturing and marketing rights for the popular aircraft to new company GlasPlanes.

Washington-based Arlington Aircraft Development (AAD) says it made the move "in the interest of support for GlaStar customers and offering kits for sale again".

Over 800 GlaStar kits have been sold and more than 100 completed, but the failure of Stoddard-Hamilton has left many customers without key parts for their aircraft.

Stoddard-Hamilton has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has accepted an offer from GlasPlanes for the purchase of all GlaStar assets and the Glasair line of high-performance kitplanes. Creditor approval will be sought for the offer, which will be packaged into the Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedure, says AAD.

GlasPlanes, based in Texarkana, Texas, plans to meet GlaStar customers for the first time at this month's AirVenture 2000 show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

AAD recently sold the GlaStar technology rights to OMF Aircraft of Germany, which is developing its two-seat piston single, high-wing OMF-160 "Symphony" (Flight International, 30 May-5 June).
