NASA will restructure the cost of its Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) mission from $254 million to $100 million, and will launch the craft two years earlier than planned, as the first mission in the Medium Explorer programme. The FUSE mission is being moved from a McDonnell Douglas Delta 2 to a smaller booster for the November 1998 launch.
