The west concourse of the new Terminal 4 at New York's Kennedy International Airport is set to open this January.

The development was originally scheduled to open by the end of 1999, but managers of the existing terminal and the reconstruction project decided to continue testing the systems and to avoid a big changeover during the holiday season.

The concourse contains six gates while the east concourse, scheduled to be opened in May 2001, will house 10 gates.

Another Kennedy project received a boost in December. The New York City Industrial Development Agency approved the issue of $1.3 billion in tax-exempt industrial revenue bonds to help American Airlines build a 56-gate terminal on the site of its two terminals.
