South Korea's information and communications ministry says Korea's defence ministry and the KT Corporation will jointly develop a military-civilian satellite, Koreasat 5, to be launched in 2005 to replace Koreasat 2. Transponders on the latest civilian Koreasat 3 communications satellite have been used by the military. The designation "4" is not used for cultural reasons.
