The US Congress has approved the Civil Aviation Research and Development Act for 1999, authorising $431 million for Federal Aviation Administration ageing aircraft research and development programmes for the next two fiscal years. The FAA is proposing that the Ageing Aircraft Safety Act be extended to aircraft older than 14 years.
