LanChile is considering a name change to fit its growing international character. There are two options: shorten the name to Lan or change it to Lan America.
Lan would become the acronym for Latin-American Airlines Network, instead of national air line (Lan in Spanish). The group already includes LanPeru, LanEcuador, and, most recently, LanDominicana. It also operates LanExpress as a low-fares unit in Chile and Argentina.
LanChile confirms it has held discussions with Summa's Avianca about an equity stake in the Colombian carrier. It is also interested in Lafsa, Argentina's new government-owned airline, but will wait until Southern Winds has finished its six-month contract to operate Lafsa.
