A third $1.1 billion, 2,750m (9,000ft) runway opened at Lambert Field, the international airport at St Louis that was TWA’s hub until American Airlines bought it in 2001 and later slashed frequencies there by half. Separately, Atlanta officials say that Hartsfield-Jackson airport’s fifth runway is on schedule to open in May. The $1.2 billion runway will increase arrivals at Delta’s main hub from 98 to 140 an hour in good weather.
