Israel has successfully tested a new version of its Shavit satellite launcher. The launch was conducted on 12 July from the Palmachim test site south of Tel-Aviv. The ministry of defence says a “rocket propulsion” test for launching satellites was performed. Sources say that the new version Shavit will be able to carry 600-800kg (1,320-1,760lb) satellites into low Earth orbit.
