BBA Aviation Services, UK owner of the world's largest fixed-base operator (FBO) chain Signature Flight Support, has broken ground on a 370m2 (4,000ft2) FBO at Toulon airport in south-east France. The facility is due to open in mid-year.

Signature says the Toulon FBO should be a major draw to business aviation traffic heading to the region, due to its proximity to resorts such as St Tropez. "There is a good base of business aircraft at Toulon already," says David Best, Signature's recently appointed managing director for Europe. "We plan to be the key destination for business aircraft heading to this part of France by offering a professional service dedicated to business aviation," he says. The Toulon facility will compete with nearby Nice and Marseilles airports.

Toulon is the fourth FBO in Signature's European portfolio, which consists of bases at Le Bourget in Paris; London Luton and Southampton in the UK.
