Cathay Pacific Airways plans to launch its long-awaited service to New York from 1 July, 1996, following the recent signing of a new air-services agreement between Hong Kong and the USA. The service will operate five times a week via Vancouver, initially with a Boeing 747-400. The Hong Kong carrier has also announced two additional weekly flights to Jakarta, in Indonesia, and a fourth flight to Auckland, in New Zealand.
