PZL SWIDNIK The Polish helicopter maker signed a deal to make ceiling stressed plate and rear ramp subassemblies for AgustaWestland's AW101, with work on other major structures still under discussion. The AW101 deal extends a 13-year relationship that has included manufacture of fuselages for the AW119, AW109 Power, AW109 LUH, Grand and AW139 models. Czech airframer Aero Vodochody remains the sole candidate for PZL Swidnik's privatisation.
LUFTHANSA Slumping markets led 2008 group passenger profits to dip 12.6% to €722 million ($921 million), and while Lufthansa Technik maintenance traded strongly it is bracing for the downturn to last until 2010 with ramifications into 2011 and beyond. And, Lufthansa Cargo mothballed four of its 19 Boeing MD-11 freighters while cabin crew voted to strike. Perhaps fortuitously under the circumstances, Lufthansa's first Airbus A380 will not arrive until 2010.
