Spanish carrier Plus Ultra has received the first of three Airbus A340-600s it will use to boost its Latin American network.
The three aircraft – configured with 376 seats in a two-class configuration – were previously operated by Etihad Airways and have been leased from European Aviation. The first (registered EC-NFP) has been delivered to Madrid-based Plus Ultra in the carrier’s livery, and the other two – EC-NFO and EC-NFQ – are set to be handed over “shortly”.
They will join a fleet of four A340-300s with which Plus Ultra operates scheduled flights from Madrid to Caracas, Lima, Quito and Guayaquil. Venezuelan capital Caracas is also served from Tenerife by the carrier.
It recently obtained permits to serve destinations in Colombia and has revealed plans to fly to Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Thailand.
The airline – which also operates flights for ACMI and charter customers – recently moved its Madrid Barajas airport operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 in order to better compete with market leader Iberia.
Plus Ultra’s executive vice-president is former Air Madrid chief executive Julio Martinez.
