The US government has cleared the potential sale of seven Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to Greece.
The $600 million package includes the rotorcraft, which are optimised for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare tasks, as well as sensors, weapons, and services related to the acquisition.
If concluded, the deal will be conducted via the US government’s Foreign Military Sales process.

“The proposed sale will improve Greece's capability to meet current and future threats,” says the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
“The MH-60R multi-mission helicopter will provide the capability to perform anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare [ASW] missions along with the ability to perform secondary missions including vertical replenishment, search and rescue, and communications relay.”
Cirium’s Fleets Analyzer shows that the Greek navy operates 18 rotorcraft, all with the primary mission of maritime patrol, ASW and surveillance.
The in-service fleet comprises 11 Sikorsky S-70B Seahawks with an average age of 20.8 years, and seven Agusta-Bell AB212s, with an average age of 37.4 years.
