A Pilatus PC-12 crash in Kenya on 13 February claimed the lives of all nine people on board, including Flight International contributing photographer Herman Potgieter.

The aircraft, one of two being delivered to a South African safari company by the Stans, Switzerland-based manufacturer, had just been flown on an air-to-air photography sortie over the Masai Mara game park before returning to Nairobi in rapidly deteriorating weather. The pilot sought to land the aircraft at the Kenyan capital's Wilson Airport, which has no landing aids, but hit rising ground 19km(10nm) from the runway.

Born in South Africa, Potgieter won international awards for his aviation photography. He was also a renowned wildlife and war photographer.
