British Airways (BA) has confirmed that it is to launch a "low fare, no frills" airline for operations to Europe. It will start flying early next year.

The carrier, operating Boeing 737-300s, will be based at London Stansted airport and "Éwill operate as a separate business with its own name, identity, management and employees."

It will fly initially to cities in Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, France and Germany.

BA says more than 150 new jobs will be generated by the operation in the first year.
