Sir - I refer to the article "UN Libyan sanctions may become tougher" (Flight International, 3-9 April, P6).

The United Nations Security Council reviews its resolutions on Libya every four months, and has specifically regulated the operation in Libya of non-Libyan aircraft, which serve the oil industry. In fact, UN Security Council Resolution No 883 (1993) specifically permits these services, so long as the arrangements came into operation before its enforcement on 1 December, 1993.

It is not true that "...the companies have been operating legally as a result of a loophole in the UN sanction".
