Flight International Online News 12:00GMT: Pilots at North American Airlines today voted overwhelmingly in favor of strike action against the carrier.
International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 747 says the carrier’s crew members voted 99% in favor of a strike.
The union on 30 September said it would seek member authorisation to initiate strike action because of lack of progress in contract talks with management.
A strike will take place “if and when released by the [US] National Mediation Board in conformity with the Railway Labor Act procedures”, says the union in a statement.
Teamsters Local 747 president and general counsel E E Sowell adds: “We think these strike vote results will show the company that the pilots are not only unified, but also serious about getting a quality contract.”
