Northwest Airlines has selected Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000 engine to power 18 Boeing 787s on firm order. The US carrier had initially signed a memorandum of understanding with General Electric to take GEnx engines, but the deal lapsed before a final contract was agreed. The UK manufacturer now has firm orders for 70 Trent 1000-powered 787s.
