Staff from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been dispatched to the island of San Andres to investigate the crash of a Boeing 737-700 operated by Colombian carrier Aires.
The crash occurred during landing on 16 August at 01:50 local time on a flight that originated in Bogota. Senior NTSB investigator Lorenda Ward is heading the team sent to the site. The aircraft was carrying 121 passengers, and reports are indicating there were 114 people injured, with one fatality.
The aircraft is one of 10 Aires has added since introducing the 737-700 into its fleet early last year. According to Flightglobal's ACAS database, HK-4682 is one of four 737-700s leased from AWAS.
Aires also operates a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q200s and Q400s. The Bogota-based carrier, Colombia's second largest after Avianca, uses its 737-700s on domestic trunk routes and on several routes connecting Colombian cities to Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
