The Airways Corporation of New Zealand became the first air-traffic-control authority with a fully operational oceanic control system (OCS) on the 14 September. The system allows controllers to monitor and keep contact with Future Air Navigation System (FANS 1)-equipped aircraft flying through oceanic airspace by using satellite communications. The OCS was developed by, CAE Electronics of Montreal, Canada.
