Oman Air has selected the Next Generation 737 for its fleet renewal programme and will acquire at least five aircraft to replace its Airbus A310 and737-400 fleet.

The airline has placed firm orders for two Boeing 737-700s, with two options, while two more-700s and one -800 will be acquired on operating lease from an as-yet undisclosed leasing company. Two aircraft will be delivered at the end of December, with another two due in July next year and the last in May 2004.

The aircraft in the current jet fleet are all leased from International Lease Finance.

According to local press reports, a financing deal is being worked out with a consortium of five international banks, with Exim Bank as guarantor for the three aircraft being purchased.
